29.09.2021 - Armsid - Finally, a good C64 SID replacement! - new video from 'Adrian's Digital Basement'
The SID chip on the C64 is a pretty great synthesizer chip. Unfortunately, due to the was MOS made the chips, they fail quite frequently. In the past, Adrian had tried the SwinSID replacement SID, but it leaves a lot to be desired about how closely it replicates the SID. Bring on the ARMSID - which seems to be produce a sound much closer to the real thing.

29.09.2021 - Programming in FORTH on Commodore 64 - new Video from '8-Bit Show And Tell'
Today we explore with Robin 64 Forth for the Commodore 64 with the help of his friend Paul Pridham, aka Madgarden, who uses his own version of Forth to code his hit indie videogames such as Death Road To Canada. Prompted by David Youd, who donated the cartridge and books to Robin, we try a few Forth variations of the famous 10 PRINT program, starting with one-line versions while working towards a more Forth-like final version.

Adrian has worked on a ton of C64s recently -- and one of his C64 breadbin machines has a very strange keyboard that is unlike any other Commodore 8-bit keyboard I've ever seen. He'd love to know if this is more common than he think it is, but searching on the internet didn't immediately reveal other people having this keyboard.

This week on 10 Minute Amiga Retro Cast Doug is cleaning up the messy cables on his Amiga 1000 with the Vampire and RGB2HDMI, and installing a new 3D printed Backplate to organize all the connectors.

25.09.2021 - C64 port of 'Galaga' released and free for download
As announced in July this year, this port of the old arcade classic is now finally released by Arlasoft. One obstacle of a decent Galaga port is the C64's aspect ratio, with the screen just 200 pixels tall compared to the Arcade's 288. However, the highly-rated NES conversion managed to squeeze it into 224 pixels, so all that was needed to do was open up the top and bottom borders for sprites and use 12 or more pixels in each to make up the difference. And there is more effort, that was put into the game...

25.09.2021 - MASTEROM: Rediscovered 1987 Commodore 64 KERNAL Replacement - new Video from '8-Bit Show And Tell'
MASTEROM is a Commodore 64 KERNAL ROM replacement created by Norland Software Products of Milton, Ontario, Canada in 1987. It replaces the cassette ROM routines with other features of more use to disk users. This software was nearly lost and forgotten until MindFlareRetro was able to meet the creator and archive both the ROM and documentation. MFR asked Robin to take a look at the software which he was very happy to do, especially once he learned of its Canadian roots and connection with Transactor magazine.

25.09.2021 - Tetris clone for Amiga 'Crazy Columns' Version 1.03 released
Jochen Heffer's 'Crazy Columns' is a clone of the classic Sega-Genesis game Columns for one or two players, which can be played with joystick or keyboard. V1.03 is now available in German or English as free download. The input in the highscore has been revised. Now the input is not terminated when pressing the fire button or the corresponding keys. Only at the last position of the name, the input is completed.

23.09.2021 - Video shows 'DaemonClaw' (Amiga) Update: September 23 2021: hugely enhanced level 2 graphics and more!
In this video we see the beautiful environment graphics enhancements made for level 2 of 'DaemonClaw: Origins of Nnar', which brings far more color to the icy level and introduces much more parallax scrolling. 'DaemonClaw: Origins of Nnar' is a 16-bit side scrolling arcade-style action game being made by BitBeamCannon using Construct 3. The game adheres to Amiga specs and may eventually have a classic Amiga port as well.
